Questions to ask about EHR access

Software familiarity is only the starting point.

VMA Companies Index editorial team · Updated 8 November 2026

The decision

A provider listing your EHR does not establish that a particular candidate has used your configuration. Ask what modules they have used and test the specific workflow with a demonstration or de-identified example.

What to compare

Your practice should decide which permissions the role needs, how remote access is approved and how activity can be reviewed. Avoid shared credentials. Confirm how access is removed when a placement ends and how the provider reports equipment or access incidents.

Before you commit

Ask who pays for extra software seats and whether the system vendor allows the proposed remote access arrangement. Record the answer in the hiring brief. Training, contractual safeguards and technical controls must work together; a marketing badge is not a substitute for that review.
